T-Mobile and Cellular at Sea Info - Cruise Critic
In the past I have always turned my T-Mobile phone to "Airplane Mode". I called T-Mobile just before going on the Allure about a month ago. I found out you don't need to set your phone to 'Airplane Mode". It can be set to Roaming "ON" and "2-G only" for the network You will not be charged for any...

Can I used my AT&T domestic cellular service for no charge in St Thomas
I've read that AT&T has sold their network to Liberty in the USVI. I've also read that as long as you are roaming off the Liberty signal there would be no charge and is included for now. Some users state that they were charged went they switched to a tower off local nearby BVIs which are very...

AT&T Cruise Package vs. Voom?
Hello, We will be on the Explorer pretty soon. I have hear the Voom Surf & Stream isn't that great on Explorer. We don't really plan on streaming but want the availability to use text, wifi calling and check emails. For our trip 1 device is $112 and 2 devices is $199. In addition to the above...

AT&T cruise package v. Carnival internet
AT&T has started a cruise package so you can use your phone while cruising without incurring all the roaming fees, etc. I was just pricing it, and it is cheaper than the social media package on Carnival. Has anyone used the AT&T package yet? How did it work for you?

NEW AT&T International Day Pass for Land and Sea
Starting in April 2025, AT&T revamped its international land and cruise packages. I never used the AT&T cruise package before because I was concerned about the data overages. That is now gone (although they slow you to a crawl after 500MB). I have an android phone and Carnival blocks wifi...

Is any water away from land, considered as international waters
Hi, I am looking for data plan. AT&T uses CellularAtSea and is only available at International waters. Alaska cruises go within inside passage. Is any water away from shore considered to be international waters ? If no, then this WiFi may be spotty ? Thanks

AT&T cruise package versus Carnival Wifi
I am trying to decide between getting AT&T's cruise package or Carnival's Wi-Fi plan. After talking to an AT&T rep over chat, it sounds like the AT&T package is only good for talk and text at sea, but if I want to go to CNN and read an article, or check the weather, I have to use Carn...

Has anyone tried the AT&T sail and stay connected plan?
It’s $100 for a month of unlimited talk and text and you can make calls from the ship. I’m going to be on Anthem for 11 days next month and I really prefer to be able to check in at home once a day. This is quite a bit cheaper than the internet plans Royal offers. Has anyone tried it? Were you ab...

Culture & Traditions of Vulcano

  • Mythological Legacy of Vulcan: Ancient Romans believed the island was the home chimney of Vulcan, the god of fire and blacksmithing, giving birth to the modern word "volcano."
  • Festa di San Giuseppe: Celebrated annually in March with traditional religious processions, communal feasts, and public gatherings honoring the patron saint of workers.
  • Therapeutic Thermal Bathing Culture: A centuries-old wellness ritual centered around natural sulfur mud baths (*Fanghi di Vulcano*) and geothermal marine hot springs.
  • Traditional Goat Cheese Artisanship (Formaggio di Capra): A pastoral heritage of handcrafting rich, seasoned ricotta and pecorino cheeses using milk from goats grazing on volcanic pastures.
  • Aeolian Volcanic Architecture: Distinctive whitewashed cubic homes built with thick stone walls, flat roofs to collect rainwater, and outdoor patio pillars (*pulera*) designed to withstand seismic heat.

History of Vulcano

  • 5th Century BCE (Greco-Roman Myth & Antiquity): Named Therasia by ancient Greeks, the island was believed by Romans to be the forge of Vulcan, god of fire, who crafted weapons for the gods using subterranean blast furnaces.
  • 1830s–1888 (Industrial Sulfur & Alum Mining): Scottish entrepreneur James Stevenson purchased the northern half of Vulcano, establishing major industrial mining operations for sulfur and alum inside the volcanic crater.
  • 1888–1890 (Catastrophic Eruption of Gran Cratere): A violent, two-year eruption cycle destroyed the mining works, scattered massive volcanic "breadcrust bombs," and permanently ended industrial human habitation inside the crater.
  • Mid-20th Century (Development of Geothermal Tourism): Inhabitants returned to build a thriving resort economy focused on health tourism, capitalizing on the island's natural sulfur mud baths and geothermal marine springs.
  • 2000 (UNESCO World Heritage Inscription): Vulcano, alongside its neighboring Aeolian Islands, was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its essential contributions to global volcanology studies.
